A resource guide for students, educators, researchers, Michiganders, and everyone else
Arcadia Publishing has created a number of “Images” series, including Images of Motoring, Images of Aviation, Campus History, and the series to which this book belongs, Images of America. Each book consists of a little over 100 pages of annotated black and white photographs. This particular volume, one of several written by Davis, presents a set of photographs primarily from the National Automotive History Collection at the Detroit Public Library with precise and well-informed captions noting remarkably fine details about various vehicles and their use. The emphasis is on the vehicles and public relations, with only a glimpse of plant design and management. Readers will have to look elsewhere for proper historical treatments (see: Arsenal of democracy : the American automobile industry in World War II by Charles K. Hyde), but this book provides useful illustrations.
